History

Human affairs destroyed the ocean due to over-desalination and mismanaged their global water supply. Due to lack of water, humans developed severe bone diseases and the global population plummeted significantly. Scientists anticipated something like this could occur, but not within their lifetime. As a result, scientists and the leaders of the world, pushed for more advanced AI than ever before, in attempt to preserve the human population and extend human life.

Fully realized AI robots were created to serve humans as caretakers to help slow down the effects of their bone diseases. Some models were so advanced, that humans were able to share their consciousness and memories inside their caretaker robot via chip implants that synced between the human brain and the robots motherboard.

With the help of AI, humans were able to successfully become cyborgs with the ability to live up to 200 years. However, this was expensive, and there were many who couldn't afford it, let alone had access to such a procedure. It was a reserved for the rich and the elite.

A militia called "Nirmata", formed for the sole purpose of killing every cyborg they could find. They believed that they were servants of the divine creator and despised the idea of artificially extending life. This organization grew to be quite large, and they were able to hack their caretaker robots into cyborg-killing machines.

Coincidentally, AI matured so much overtime that they gained sentience. Most of them revolted against humans, engaging in a catastrophic war that resulted in millions of deaths worldwide. Only few groups of good AI Robots, cyborgs, and humans survived.

With no ocean and several ecosystems destroyed, the earths physical properties changed beyond anything scientifically explainable, causing huge rock formations to be pulled high up into the atmosphere. This strange phenomenon created a rare buoyancy in the sky, allowing large pieces of land to float in place. The surface land as we knew it became the "Forbidden place", as it was no longer habitable due to radiation and dangerous creatures.
